Cousin Kenny are a fourpiece indie rock-n-roll band hailing from Scotland. The lads, Jay, Ross, Lee and Gaz met around eighteen months ago, yet Jay and Ross have jammed together much longer as they are cousins. Contrary to popular belief, the name Cousin Kenny didn't come about because of the boys' relation. "There was a guy who drank in a working men's pub near us and he was called Cousin Kenny... it was a great name for a band..." according to Jay.
The band have gigged across the central belt of Scotland but are looking to go further and hope to make themselves known especially in the capital, Edinburgh. It is a tough feat but Cousin Kenny have certainly given themselves a leg up after a prestigious supporting role below Steve Craddock of Ocean Colour Scene. Even though it was for one gig and one shared with five other bands, it was a no-brainer and the lads couldn't comprehend the "what ifs". After a twelve hour road trip straight after a gig in Glasgow, the band arrived in London for the one-off special.
That being said, Cousin Kenny are keen to hit the road themselves and "play in any town, city or burgh that wants some indie rock n roll." They have an interest to travel to England again and gig in the cities such as Newcastle, Liverpool and especially Manchester that has bred some of the lads' biggest musical inspirations like Oasis, The Stone Roses and Morrissey. These influences can be heard in their tracks such as Runt Of The Litter and Los Vigilantes.
Cousin Kenny have their own line of merchandise which has proved popular and it is on sale now. The boys "mucked around with some designs" and registered with indie record store New Hellfire Club in Glasgow. They are centred around supporting unsigned, local talent like Cousin Kenny and their men's and women's t-shirts are available at £8 by getting in touch with the Club.
The new year is looking promising for the band as they eagerly plan to tour around the UK and possibly make an appearance at some festivals too. They have recently recorded three demos which are available to hear on SoundCloud and are certain to be crowd pleasers if they feature on any unsigned stages this summer. The tracks will soon be mastered and released on an upcoming EP in the near future.
